Quick bites – only in Iceland?

Can you imagine this in the UK?

The police in Reykjavík got an emergency call at 2 am last night when someone saw a man jump into the cold ocean at the old fishing harbor in the downtown area, mbl.is reports.

When the police arrived, the man was on the pier. He told police that he had wanted to jump into the ocean for a long time. He was fine after the swim but the police gave him a ride home.

The temperature in Reykjavík last night was just under 0°C (32°F).

Gave him a ride home. Y-e-e-e-e-s-s-s.

    And why not?

I have had people in the cells, pissed as a fart, but no danger to themselves or any one else, over night, in an UNLOCKED cell (Given! We HAVE the luxury of having enough cells to cope), and had the local patrol car take them home in the morning.

Very seldom, but it DOES happen.

  2. Ah, that shows community spirit.

  3. An example of what the locals here would think about that

  4. And another…

This is an annual event, though you’d not catch me down there in the cold!

  5. for this time of year that’s a heatwave.

  6. Blackrock safety tip. Don’t dive into the wind.
