Scarcely needs explanation [via Wiggia]:
A FORTNIGHT ago Richard Ottaway was dubbed a knight in the New Year’s Honours list.
Now the Croydon South MP has been dubbed “a bit cowardly” after asking the police to attend the handing over of a petition by a small group of constituents, including an 81-year-old woman.
Liz Marsden, 39, had organised a meeting with Sir Richard where she hoped to hand over a petition signed by opponents of the government’s Lobbying Bill.
But when she and a dozen residents arrived at the MP’s constituency office in Brighton Road on Friday afternoon they were met by a police car parked in the driveway.
Mrs Marsden, of the Croydon branch of Friends of the Earth, said: “Mr Ottaway thought it was going to be a demonstration, but it wasn’t. It was just a dozen people who are conscientious and wanted to show him they support the petition.
